You love love love books, right? And you always wanted to share your opinions about the books you’ve read but aren’t sure how to do it or who to approach on publishing one, right? With “Rev Up That Review, Luv!”, Kirkus reviewer Andrea Plaid will show you how to write one! Andrea (she/her/hers/herself) will teach you how to write a long and a short book review about your favorite tome, be it sci-fi, poetry, history, or romance. She’ll deconstruct both to demonstrate: –The difference between writing a synopsis and a review. –How to incorporate a synopsis into a review. –How to write a spoiler-free review. –How to meld social justice into a book review. –How to defend your social-justice position in your review. And Andrea believes in learning by doing! So, the students will craft a 200-300 word review and can volunteer to workshop them with the rest of the class. Andrea also will offer suggestions on places where students can either self-publish or pitch their work.
