PENNING MY PIECES: How To Piece Together Essays From This Puzzle Called Life
Penning My Pieces is a multi-week writing workshop intensive for Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, and other participants of color to explore how to craft literary stories that stem from their lived experiences.
Attendees will learn the art of storytelling, read creative nonfiction written by acclaimed BIPOC authors, recall and reflect on their own lives, and pen their own literary art that stems from it. At the culmination, participants will perform their art at public showcases and publish their work in an anthology, enabling them to begin or build upon their own portfolio of published literary art. All participating storytellers are paid an honorarium for their performances and commissioned works.
Penning My Pieces is capped at a limited number of storytellers in each cohort. This ensures the space remains sacred and safe, and enables each participant to receive and give the individualized feedback the workshop demands.
Penning My Pieces is completely free. Roots. Wounds. Words. is able to offer this program thanks to the generous support of our organizational partners.
